Our History

Since 1961 our growth has been spectacular. From our roots in the West Midlands the company has developed into a national organisation with branches from Edinburgh to the Isle of Wight. This year our turnover is anticipated to be in excess of £240 million and we employ nearly 1000 permanent staff and payroll in excess of 20,000 flexible workers per week.

As an organisation we always encourage new ideas and methods as we believe this is a vital element in our success. History has shown that it is our readiness to adopt and implement new ideas that has led us to the top of our industry. Our latest development has been to evolve the Pertemps identity into Jobs@Pertemps for our industrial and commercial temporary operations. This gives a clear and precise definition of the company’s role in the market place and reflects our adoption of new technology. Similarly we have spun off and created a new identity for our permanent division, now known as Recruitment Moves.

Another recent development has been to pioneer a new concept of share ownership whereby our employees now own nearly half of the company via an employee benefit trust. Through this incentive scheme each employee is entitled to an annual subscription of shares enabling them to have a stake in our success and make a worthwhile investment in both the company and their own future.

So how did we get here? The transformation of Pertemps into a multi-million pound business began in the 1970s when founder Mrs Constance Watts was joined in the family business by her entrepreneurial son Tim. Tim enlisted the help of Gill Duffield, Mike Owen, Roger Englefield and Jenny Jackson and with their expertise and drive the company diversified from its foundation in secretarial recruitment into technical and industrial services. The following years saw rapid expansion throughout the Midlands and then across the UK with branches of technical, industrial and commercial recruitment specialists. Then in the 1990s these separate companies were amalgamated to become one partnership with specialist divisions all brought together under the Pertemps Recruitment Partnership umbrella. The late 1990s saw a series of acquisitions which expanded the group further. This brings us to the present day where Jobs@Pertemps has evolved from Pertemps Recruitment Partnership to deliver its highly focused service to jobseekers and businesses throughout the UK.

Throughout this time Pertemps has been at the forefront of the recruitment industry. We are active members of REC (Recruitment and Employment Confederations), the CBI (Confederation of British Industry), the BIFM (British Institute of Facilities Management), and the FTA (Freight Transport Association). The company has also been presented with numerous awards including, Investors in People, ISO 9002, Daily Telegraph and BT Customer Service Award, and the Coventry Evening Telegraph Business and Business Man of the Year awards for Pertemps and Tim Watts respectively.

Through all the growth, developments and transitions we always strive to maintain the firm foundation of family values that have given us the strength, purpose, honesty and integrity to forge so many successful working relationships.
