Celebrating 50 golden years in recruitment

Recruitment consultancy Pertemps is today celebrating 50 years in recruitment. The company, which was started by Constance Watts from a small office on Temple Street, Birmingham has gone from strength to strength since it was formed in 1961.

Pertemps now payrolls approximately 30,000 people every week and over the past 50 years has expanded to become one of the largest independent recruitment agencies in Britain, with over 100 branches in 70 towns and cities.

The company estimates that in the past five decades it has billed five million hours. Chairman Tim Watts said: “ The history of Pertemps is no different to that of the history of commerce in so much that we have lived through 50 years of change.

“Our philosophy has always been based on quality and value for money and to this effect we are proud of our cost down approach to such an extent that our margins are now only a third of what they were 50 years ago and through technology we are seeking to reduce this margins further.

“We are delighted to be celebrating 50 years in business and I believe that the reason for our success is simple. We know our industry inside out and do our utmost to find the right people for the right jobs.”

In the past 50 years the company has gone from strength to strength. To kick-start the 50th anniversary a party and awards ceremony was thrown at Coventry’s Ricoh Arena in April. As testament to the positive working the evening saw four staff rewarded for 25 years service and a further 16 for 10 years service.
