100 MILES AND £10,000 MIDAS PROVES THE GOLDEN TOUCH FOR PERTEMPS |

Congratulations to four of our senior members of head office staff who have returned from a 100-mile charity trek in the Sahara Desert, raising over £10,000 for ‘Cure Leukaemia’.
Kent Thompson, Celia Perry, Michelle White and Chris Wyres braved the desert’s harshest elements to each walk 100 miles in five days. Group leaders Dougie Brown and Kay White led the 15-strong team from Casablanca to the Atlas Mountains through temperatures ranging from +40 to –40 degrees.
Managing Director Kent Thompson said, “It has been an incredible journey. We really pushed ourselves to the extreme, but it has been for a great cause and an experience we’ll never forget.
Kent added, “We’d particularly like to thank Dougie and Kay and the local guides who helped us throughout the trek, without whom, it wouldn’t have been possible.
“We’ve had so much support from friends, family and colleagues who have helped us to raise money for such a great charity close to many people at Pertemps.”
Thank you to everyone who sponsored the team for their trip and also to those who have been holding fundraising events for Cure Leukaemia throughout the year.
Congratulations to all!
Pertemps Wins Green Fleet Award
Pertemps, one of the UK’s leading recruitment specialist, has received a top environmental award for helping to drive down its fuel consumption and costs.
The company’s pioneering MIDAS system so impressed judges at this year’s Energy Saving Trust Fleet Hero Awards that they crowned it winner in the Private Sector 250+ Cars category.
The awards, held in partnership with The Dept of Transport, The Observer and Fleet News, honour organisations in both the public and private sectors that are able to significantly reduce their CO2 emissions. The awards also showcase those who are making outstanding or pioneering achievements in green fleet management.
MIDAS – Mileage Input Data Acquisition System – is a web-based fuel and journey management system .
The MIDAS software, which has been designed in-house, records and monitors mileage and fuel transactions within the fleet. The system then charges employees for their private mileage, which is calculated using actual fuel costs.
The MIDAS data gives detailed reports on fuel usage and journeys. The improvements in operational efficiency have led to significant cost savings for the company.
It also enables accounts staff to significantly reduce administration, therefore also costs, when processing Inland Revenue and VAT claims, - as MIDAS is Euro VI Vat Compliant.
So successful has MIDAS proved that Pertemps has formed a strategic partnership with Fortline Ltd, a Software Development Company - together they are enhancing the existing system and will be making MIDAS available as a commercial offering by the middle of 2007.
Savings have been in the order of £100,000 p.a. - so dramatic that MIDAS will more than pay for itself, both financially and environmentally.
“Pertemps has always made a conscious effort to be as environmentally proactive as possible,” said fleet manager Adrian Harris.
“With more than 600 vehicles in the fleet, transport costs are significant and fuel obviously accounts for a large portion of this, so we looked at alternatives for reducing our costs, and CO2 emissions”..
“We already had a diesel policy but in an effort to be more environmentally efficient we invited consultants from the Energy Saving Trust to conduct a review of the fleet to see where improvements could be made.”
“This has paid off handsomely and with more companies now taking the issue of fuel management seriously, effective and innovative solutions such as MIDAS make sense both in financial and environmental terms.”
The company has also looked for innovative solutions elsewhere in its operation. For example, proactive use of e-business techniques such as networked laptops and video conferencing are helping to save unnecessary business journeys and drive down transport costs.
Matthew Wright, Director of Marketing at the Energy Saving Trust, and Chairman of the Award Judges, said: "As with energy efficiency in the home or workplace, we must also look at transport as a place where we can reduce carbon emissions.
“The winners in the Fleet Heroes Awards have taken simple, practical steps which, not only help the planet, but also help to save money and resources.
“They provide an example to any business or organisation that operates a fleet - no matter what size."
