‘Business Oscars’ spotlight on Pertemps
Pertemps National Remploy Award (see below)

Pertemps Employment Alliance are celebrating after scooping a ‘business Oscar’ at a prestigious national awards ceremony at the Hilton Hotel in
London.

Shortlisted in two categories, Company of the Year and the Customer Excellence Award, Pertemps emerged as the winners of Customer Excellence at the Confederation of British Industry’s annual Growing Business Awards 2006.

PEA has become one of the UK’s leading providers of Government-funded Welfare to Work initiatives since it was established by Pertemps Group chairman Tim Watts and PEA chief executive Colin Birchall in 1998. From humble beginnings in north Solihull, PEA has continually secured new contracts to expand its services across the UK and increase turnover to £40M.

The company is part of Pertemps People Development Group with employment and training projects nationwide. Since incorporation, more than 50,000 long-term unemployed and marginalised job seekers are now working again thanks to the intervention and fresh approach taken by Pertemps in providing solutions to the issue of long-term unemployment.

The awards were described by Gordon Brown as the ‘business Oscars’ and the ‘premier showcase of enterprise in the UK’, and took place in front of an audience of 700 leading entrepreneurs hosted by former Conservative Party leader William Hague.

Now in their eighth year, the awards are open to all independently-owned UK companies with fewer than 500 employees. They attract hundreds of entrants each year and have become a spotlight for recognising entrepreneurial talent in the UK.

CEO Colin Birchall said: “We are absolutely delighted to have been nominated for two awards and thrilled to be named as a compnay with outstanding customer excellence credentials. To be recognised in this way is a tribute to the hard work and endeavour displayed by each and every one of our employees. When we stand and reflect, we are extremely proud of our achievements and realise just how far we have come in such a short space of time.”

Richard Lambert, CBI director-general, comments: “There are so many fantastic companies out there, creating wealth and jobs for the country but few ever get the public recognition they deserve. That is why the Growing Business Awards are so important. They celebrate the success of the best in British business and those companies who are the elite in their field.”

The Company of the Year award, for an outstanding business whose growth, ambition and quality of management has enabled it to out-perform its peers and has delivered on a compelling business strategy, is sponsored by Alliance Corporate Risk Management. John McLaren-Stewart, chief executive said, “Pertemps was a very well-deserving finalist, and had earned its place in the final four of such a prestigious award. All the finalists have demonstrated a dynamic and innovative approach that inspires and help us develop our own product to meet the increasing market in which they operate. Along with our large client base of dynamic growing businesses, we have enormous respect for the finalists of this award."

The Customer Excellence Award, which celebrates the very best in customer service, customer retention and customer relationship management, is sponsored by Coutts & Co.

NATIONAL AWARD RECOGNITION FOR ‘LEADING THE WAY'

We’re delighted to announce that Pertemps’ National Grid Call Centre in Gloucester has won the national award from Remploy for its inclusion of people with disabilities and health conditions, following the branch’s regional win in October this year.

Run by Remploy, the UK’s leading provider of employment opportunities for people with disabilities and health conditions, the ‘Leading the Way’ awards are presented to organisations that make outstanding efforts in the employment and development of disabled people.

The Gloucester team Nina Grant and Louis Marley received the award at a gala ceremony at The Landmark Hotel in London.

Carmen Watson, Managing Director of Pertemps, commented on the company’s success, “Receiving national recognition for their dedication and commitment to equal opportunities in the workplace is a great achievement. The team is an asset to Pertemps and we are all very proud.

Well done to everyone!
