New regulations drive industry forward
Businesses who employ drivers are warned of new industry legislation changes that will affect their industry.
Pertemps Recruitment Partnership, who operate a specialised drivers recruitment division from branches throughout the UK are more than aware of the recent changes and urge other business to keep abreast of all new legislation.
Debbie Osborne, Branch Manager of Pertemps in Southampton advises on the regulation changes facing employers and drivers. “All new vehicles as of 1st May last year need to be fitted with the new digital tachograph by law. To date, however, only 20% of drivers have applied for digital cards.
Debbie added: “It is imperative that all drivers apply for these cards. Pertemps offer free training to all our HGV drivers and reimburse the cost of the digital tachograph card once they have worked for a period of 10 weeks to ensure all our drivers are fully compliant.”
Further regulations are coming into force from 11 April that include changes to how work breaks are taken alongside daily and weekly rest periods.
The Pertemps drivers division has been very successful and as a result has many loyal and dedicated drivers working for the company, drivers such as Richard Stockley who has just completed his ten years of service as a driver for the company.
Richard currently drives for Pertemps as an LGV driver and is registered with the Southampton branch. In his decade of loyal service he has worked for over 100 different clients, delivering anything from containers to parcels and watercress to pallets of bricks.
Richard, who recently received a gold watch to reward him for his ‘Decade of Delivering said: “I really enjoy the flexibility of working for different companies and being paid by one employer.
