SEN BEHAVIOUR SUPPORT- LONDON BOROUGH OF WALTHAM FOREST
The Education Network is looking for Learning Support Assistants for a secondary school based in Waltham Forest. You will need to be experienced in handling challenging students with experience in any of the following Behaviour, Emotional and Social Difficulties (BESD), Social, Emotional & Mental Health (SEMH), Autistic Spectrum Condition (ASC) you will be working in a small unit with students in Key Stage 3 (KS3) and Key Stage 4 (KS4).

SALARY -£14,625 - £16,600 for permanent SEN Teaching Assistant. Contracts £75.00 - £85.00 per day for long term supply.

Our client is a mainstream school with a unit for students who have challenging behaviour and in most cases are reluctant learners and those on the point of exclusion. We can offer you both ongoing supply work as well as long term contracts. Our client school seeks to challenge and extend students of all abilities and backgrounds and will provide them with the secure learning foundations to lead happy and successful lives while also enabling them to make positive contributions to the communities in which they live.
THE ROLE - SEN BEHAVIOUR SUPPORT ASSISTANT
We have great opportunities in The London Borough of Waltham Forest and neighbouring areas to contribute to the lives of children and students with ASC/BESD/SEMH/ADHD and school refusers.
You will need to be passionate about Special Educational Needs (SEND) and be able to see past the barriers to learning. You will be expected to give appropriate feedback and maintain records of pupils' progress and development. The successful SEN teaching assistant will be required to prepare pupils for qualifications and external examinations. Liaising with other professionals, such as medical staff, careers advisers, educational psychologists, social services and education welfare officers.
SEN BEHAVIOUR SUPPORT ASSISTANT SPECIFICATION
You will be an experienced Teaching Assistant who has experience of working with Secondary aged students Key Stage 3 (KS3) and Key Stage 4 (KS4) with and without statements for any of the following ASC/BESD/SEMH/ADHD or school refusers.
You must be able to remain calm when the need arises and have excellent negotiation skills.
You will need to have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships quickly with students and their families and have previous experience of working with this client base. The ability to see through challenging behaviour, be able motivate and inspire reluctant and struggling students coupled with the ability to differentiate work and use students interest's to build innovative and creative lesson is an advantage.
A recognised qualification in de-escalation and restraint such as PRICE, Team Teach, SCIP or MAPA is desirable but not essential.
