-This document is a outlines the job description for the Data Quality Validator

-The Data Quality validator is accountable to the Validation Manager

Validation is a crucial function in supporting the directorates to deliver the best services to the public, by making sure patient activity data is up to date and absolutely correct. We work closely with the directorates to discuss and challenge the data, in the interest of the patient not waiting unnecessarily.

The successful candidate will be working as part of a team responsible for the collection, validation and collation of agreed clinical datasets ensuring accuracy and completeness.

This will involve the interrogation of multiple data sources containing clinical and administrative data, merging duplicate patient records, dealing with helpdesk support calls & data validation.


-Become an expert in 18 week rules and guidance

-Become an expert in the Trust's Access Policy

-To extract relevant clinical information from a variety of sources and enter agreed data sets into relevant spread sheets/databases

-To locate missing data by whatever process is necessary including contacting medical secretaries, reviewing case notes etc

-Undertake extensive validation of data derived from medical records and Trust systems to ensure primary source items of dataset are accurate.

-Ensure all outcomes for relevant patients are updated and entered into the relevant system following hospital attendances.

-To acquire and maintain knowledge and skills in the interpretation of relevant medical terminology

-To identify and action data quality issues as appropriate.

-Use their own judgement to interpret and extract complex data in accordance with agreed guidelines from correspondence and medical records

-Identify and amend inaccuracies on the PAS system

-Maintain strict codes of confidentiality and security at all times as the nature of the work involves the handling and processing of sensitive personal data.
