Mobile Instrument Control & Automation Engineering Technician
What is the purpose of this role?
We are currently looking for an Instrument Control & Automation Engineering Technician to work for the UK's largest water and Sewerage Company on a permanent basis or temp to perm.
This field-based ICA Engineering Technician (Instrument, Control and Automation) will inspect, maintain, test or repair as appropriate, SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) and associated PLC's, instrumentation, control and automation equipment within our Strategic Pumping Stations.
The geographical area covered will be within Earl, Falconbrook, Greenwich, Heathwall, Shad Thames & Wandle Valley.
The successful applicant will be part of a new and unique team providing service to strategic pumping stations whilst also covering work in the Trunk Sewers.. Working across various sites you will assist with the installation of brand new, top of the range equipment as well as maintenance of existing equipment. You will also be exposed to the 'supersewer', Thames Tideway Tunnel which will provide you with exclusive insight into the future of the Utilities industry
What will this role involve?
Installing, modifying and commissioning new plant equipment to relevant standards and to diagnose and repair faults on systems and plants. Pro-actively identifying and reporting follow on work or areas for enhancement.
Working in multi-disciplinary teams of civil, mechanical, process and electrical/ICA engineers.
Liaising and supervising contractors and suppliers where necessary.
Carrying out instrument, control and automation maintenance on a variety of clean or waste-water assets including planned maintenance and defect maintenance.
Delivering cost effective improvements to assets and systems.
Conducting your own risk assessments and create appropriate method statements when required to safely carry out maintenance activities.
Providing specialist technical advice where appropriate with up to date technical knowledge, and provide training support for technical trainees.
What skills are we looking for?
The successful applicant will have completed an approved apprenticeship and ideally be qualified to City and Guilds Part 2 or NVQ level 3 in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, in a combined electronic and electrical discipline. A good, practical understanding of operational plant and control systems is essential as well as an understanding of relay logic and PLCs which will include management and programming. The ideal candidate will have the ability to read and fault find from circuit diagrams as well as have previous experience of inverter drives.
We are looking for someone with experience of calibration and maintenance of front line instrumentation. You will have good time management and organisation skills and will be able to work with minimum supervision, under your own initiative. As well as this you will be knowledgeable of Health and Safety relevant to the industry.
Due to the nature of the role you will need a valid UK driving licence and be able to pass medical exam to gain CP2 qualification in confined spaces.
This role is field based, covering London Hammersmith, Stratford, Greenwich & everywhere in between, and is working out of Greenwich Strategic Pumping Station. We are offering a salary between £32,000 & £43,000 depending on experience and qualifications. Participation in a 24/7 Out of Hours Standby rota (typically 1 week in 4) will be required after a suitable period of training and assessment, for which you will receive an additional payment.
All necessary equipment such as vehicle and tools will be provided
