Job Description

One of the UK’s most recognised large multidisciplinary engineering consultancies currently has a vacancy available for a principal mechanical engineer to join its building services design team in the Central London office.

This mechanical engineering vacancy will offer a basic of between 57k and 65k, depending on experience and qualifications.

The consultancy has been trading for 50 years and currently employs in excess of 700 people across the UK. Operating from 20 offices their key services include building services engineering (M&E / MEP), civil & structural engineering, town planning, transport planning and geotechnical & geo-environmental engineering. Their project portfolio incorporates large scale, high profile building and infrastructure schemes throughout the UK.

The responsibilities for the principal mechanical design engineer will include:

- Lead multidisciplinary building services MEP project teams to deliver on building services and environmental design projects
- Work with clients to develop a detailed brief and produce reports for their mechanical and electrical building services requirements
- Take a proactive role in influencing the design of the buildings in relation to efficient services integration and building energy performance
- Integrate the demands of sustainability and carbon emission reduction strategy into the project
- Lead, coach and develop a small team of mechanical and electrical engineers
- Develop effective working relationships with the wider design team and architects to influence project outcomes
- Produce outline design, scheme design, and detailed design reports including drawings and specifications
- Work in collaboration with other internal disciplines, including civil / structural engineering, acoustics and environmental services
- Develop effective client relationships to create new business opportunities

- Experience of a wide variety of mechanical and building services projects
- Experience of working as part of a multidisciplinary MEP building services team
- Experience of leading, developing and coaching team members
- Robust experience of developing and maintaining highly effective relationships
- An understanding of design tools such as Hevacomp, Revit and IES
- Experience and knowledge of energy policy, master planning and reporting
- Knowledge of large mixed use development and building modelling
- Have the ability to understand and evolve design strategies in response to planning and regulatory requirements
