Estimator required for this major facades subcontractor, with a glazing background, to work for their special works division, based in Redhill.
Reporting to the Divisional Manager, of the Special Works Division, to undertake the estimating and cost assessment for final tenders. Ensure the full scope of work is considered and that all technical, logistical and programme implications are fully evaluated.
Liaise with Internally Division Manager, Technical and Sales manager, design team and QS. Externally – Clients, Architects, Consultants, Main Contractors, Developers, Suppliers, Sub-contractors.
As directed by the Division Manager, undertake the estimated cost assessment for final tenders. Ensure the full scope of work is considered and that all technical, logistical and programme implications are fully evaluated. As directed by the Division Manager assist with a benchmarking analysis system. Ensure the smooth handover of the awarded contract information to the contracts department.
Following the Company’s acceptance of the client’s tender enquiry request, and as directed by the Division Manager, take ownership of the estimating process.
Review tender enquiry documents & understand scope of works and key specification requirements; sub-divide scope into different wall types and any other requirements.
Prepare 'take-offs' (accurately establishing quantities required) for each curtain wall and/or window type and any other project deliverables
Identify non-system or special materials or services; obtain prices directly or through purchasing department.
Prepare and issue production cost enquiry documents to production estimating; analyse, compare and critically review quotations received.
Accurately estimate the total project cost including design, procurement, manufacture, testing, sub-contracts, delivery and installation (critically appraising 'budgets' provided by others). Use appropriate methods, checks and safeguards until such time as a new estimating system is online, tested and commissioned.
Establish the commercial costs associated with the tender. Add to the technical cost price all contingent commercial liabilities (bonds, discounts etc) and the necessary mark up to cover overhead costs and required profit.
In co-operation with the Division Manager, attend a pre tender review meeting. Present the pre tender for evaluation by the committee. Co-ordinate activities resulting from the conclusion of the meeting.
For each successful tender, prepare a detailed analysis of the final subcontract sum (detailed budget) for handover to the project team.
Following handover of the project to contracts department, provide such subsequent assistance as requested to ensure the smooth transfer of any residual information not included at contract award stage.
As directed by the Division Manager assist with the maintenance of the benchmarking analysis system.
Comply with the requirements of the Company’s quality control procedures as appropriate.
Carry out other reasonable duties as may be required from time to time by the Division Manager.
