Pertemps have made the Innovation 50 report; an index of inspiring Midlands-based companies celebrating innovative products or services.
Published by law firm Mills & Reeve, the report identifies forward-thinking companies in the region. It features 50 businesses from a range of sectors including manufacturing and engineering, retail, consumer and leisure, science and technology, healthcare and education, digital and creative and business services.
Companies featured in the Innovation 50 were chosen by a panel of experts comprising some of the region’s top leaders in business and innovation.
Pertemps, listed in the business services category, is acknowledged for our employment partnership with the Army. After launching Pertemps Driving Academy, we came up with a flagship scheme to incentivize a career in the Army Reserves through the offer of free LGV driver training and guaranteed paid work during spare time.
This innovative scheme was in answer to the nationwide driver shortage, a serious industry problem impacting the haulage industry as well as the UK economy. The MoD also faced issues recruiting and retaining Reservists, so we combined the two issues to come up with a collective solution.
Through our close relationship with the MoD, the work of the Pertemps Driving Academy and our Forces liaison officers, we have trained and deployed over 1,300 LGV drivers to date. We have given Reservists the chance to earn a living and experience a career in driving alongside their duties; a possibility that many found difficult to find in the past.
For our work we were awarded with the Gold Award, the highest award for MoD employer support, by Duke of Cambridge Price William.
As Birmingham and the Midland’s profile rises on the global business stage, Pertemps are honoured to be considered as an innovative and forward-thinking company.
Director Michelle White said: “Making the Innovation 50 report is brilliant news for Pertemps. Being recognised as one of the most innovative companies in the Midlands is fantastic and reflects the hard work and commitment we have put into our working partnership with the MoD.”
