Private Shane Hands, a member of the Army Reserve, recently received funded training from the Pertemps Driving Academy. He wanted a flexible driving job to fit around his Army Reserve duties and Pertemps helped him to do so. He tells us about his experience with the Driving Academy.
“In August 2012 I joined the Army Reserve while studying BTEC Sports at college. I had no driving experience whatsoever but was always interested in driving as a career. Within 18 months of joining the Army Reserve I had completed both Phase 1 and 2 training and was qualified as a military driver with a full LGV Cat C and Forklift licence.
During my time with the Army Reserve I went to Germany, Kenya and Cyprus as well as representing the Regiment at shooting, rugby and football events. The experience was brilliant, but I was keen to take my military driving experience into civilian employment.
I was always put off by the price of additional training and the fact that finding a flexible job around my Reserve duties was hard to find. However, thanks to Pertemps this all changed! In the spring of 2016 I was introduced to the company and their Portfolio Employment Model (PEM), designed to provide civilian driving careers to Army Reservists.
Through the PEM scheme, I was assisted greatly with Driver CPC training as well as receiving free commercial familiarisation training. At the end, I was offered flexible employment to fit around my Reserve career.
I now work for Pertemps as a driver at Heathrow Airport carrying out a variety of different roles. I love driving different vehicles and having the responsibility of operating near aircraft.
Pertemps have not only provided me with free training, but the support and flexible work I have always been seeking. I couldn’t recommend them enough for anyone considering a driving career.”
