Our client, a highly respected public sector organisation based in Glasgow City centre, require a Communications Officer on a temporary basis. The salary for the position is £11.95 per hour. Hours of work are Monday to Friday 9.00am to 5.00pm - 35 hours per week.

Main purpose of role:
To co-ordinate the day-to-day activities of the Communications function, supporting the organisation's strategic goals and planning with respect to employee engagement and communication.

Accountabilities/Responsibilities:

  • Manage the day to day delivery of all internal and external communications activity, including management of the communications channels to ensure customers are informed on a timely and effective basis of all relevant issues and activities
  • Lead and deliver communications to impart business information and to ensure all staff are properly and effectively informed
  • Co-ordinate the development and implementation of the Communications Strategy in conjunction with the line manager to ensure activities are properly aligned with organisational goals
  • Provide advice and guidance to all relevant stakeholders to help ensure the effective delivery of the communications strategy by delivering clear, unambiguous messages on a timely basis
  • Research and write internal and external communications material for a wide variety of subject matter in order to ensure copy is fit for purpose and will reach targeted audiences
  • Manage, lead and implement a range of communications activities to support the aims of business areas
  • Edit, write and publish various publications, such as the staff and customer newsletters, to raise the visibility and further the cause of all relevant business and social activities
  • Coordinate, input and, where appropriate, lead the communications aspect of project groups with the aim of improving communications between and with relevant stakeholders
  • Liaise with staff through a variety of means to ensure their views are effectively represented, acted upon and to provide effective channels for the dissemination of information as well as gathering feedback
  • Assist in the development and delivery of any training required to ensure the effective use of communication channels and the development of succinct and relevant communications content
  • Review and analyse relevant internal and external communications channels (top-down and upwards) to ensure that they are being used effectively and research/create new channels where necessary
Skills and Experience:
The post holder will be a professional with experience in both communications and engagement practices. They will have an excellent working knowledge of technologies such as SharePoint, Sway and Yammer.
Where no formal qualification exists, proven experience in a similar role in a large scale organisation. They will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and will be self-motivated with strong time management and prioritisation skills.
  • As a minimum ideally be educated to SCQF level 8 or have at least 2 years' experience in a similar post
  • Experienced in Office 365 communication packages, such as SharePoint, Yammer and Sway
  • Have a proactive and enthusiastic approach to work while working independently
  • Experience of working in an internal communications role in a complex operating environment
  • Have the ability to facilitate/influence teams being worked with
