Environmental Quality Officer

Pertemps are currently recruiting for an Environmental Quality Officer to work within the Public Sector based in Hammersmith, London on a temporary contract to start as soon as possible until the end of November 2019

The purpose of the role is to maintain a high standard of land, air and water pollution knowledge, competency and skills by participating in personal learning and development, as necessary or as required

In your role as Environmental Quality Officer, your responsibilities will include

  • Working in accordance with policies, procedures, protocols, processes, risk assessments and relevant service plans
  • Deal with the preparation, analysis, interpretation and presentation of clear, logical, accurate and timely reports, documents, schedules of work, spreadsheets, data analysis and feedback, commensurate with the grade and post
  • Use computer-based databases and record keeping programmes to accurately enter and record information about work activities according to the data quality principles
  • Attend meetings, internal or external and liaise with other authorities, agencies, council services, service providers, government representatives, architects, surveyors, solicitors, traders, residents and other customers
  • Provide a high level of customer care and deal sensitively and courteously with residents and other customers, traders, members of the public and their representatives
Qualification and Experience:

Essential:
  • Bachelor's degree relevant to Air Quality
  • Practical training and experience in ambient air quality monitoring, modelling and assessment
  • Detailed knowledge and understanding of EU, national and local environmental legislation and guidance. Understanding of the duties and powers this legislation places on the department
  • Understanding of relevant environmental planning guidance and legislation
  • A thorough understanding of air quality assessments
  • Experience of using a GIS based database and quantitative risk assessment modelling tools
  • To have highly developed communication and interpersonal skills and to be able to communicate complex themes in technical and non-technical terms, both orally and in writing, concisely with a variety of different audiences and have the ability to contribute to corporate issues within the organisation
  • Numerate and well organised and be able to analyse and interpret complex data and seek solutions to technical challenges
  • Experience and willingness to work within a team environment delivering an effective and proficient service to our users
  • Excellent IT skills and experience working with large database systems
  • At least 5 years' experience reviewing air quality submissions on large scale major developments/projects without supervision
  • At least 5 years' experience progressing the satisfaction of air quality requirements (e.g. planning conditions) on the relevant large scale major developments/projects
  • At least 5 years' experience coordinating and managing air quality monitoring or improvement projects
  • Management of team budgets
  • Supervision of staff in undertaking the review of submissions on all air quality submissions
Desirable
  • Detailed knowledge and understanding of environmental legislation and guidance including the Environmental Permitting Regulations 2010, the Private Water Supply Regulations 2009
  • Understanding of the duties and powers this legislation places on the department
  • Understanding and preferably experience in understanding integrated pollution prevention and control activities at industrial processes
  • A familiarity and preferably experience with water quality assessment
  • Experience in contaminated land monitoring, modelling and assessment
  • Experience working with the planning system
Additional Information
  • The role of Environmental Quality Officer is a temporary role to start in as soon as possible until the end of November 2019
  • The hourly rate on the role is £16.00
  • This is a full time role Monday – Friday, 36.00 hours per week
