What is the purpose of the role?

To be part of a valuable team of 4 staff to provide and deliver a high quality testing service to manufacturers and suppliers of materials used in water supply/distribution and building installations. To satisfy the requirements of WRAS, DWI and UKAS and to ensure that the analytical testing service is delivered to time, cost and quality standards whilst achieving excellent customer service. To continuously optimise and improve the service delivered and adhere to health and safety standards.

What does this role involve?

We are seeking a flexible, highly motivated individual to undertake a varied role as part of our Materials Testing team.

To undertake day-to-day sales activities, this will include dealing with customer enquiries and issues relating to the testing of their products, producing quotations, preparation of samples prior to analytical testing, invoicing and compiling of final reports upon completion of results.

To undertake day-to-day analytical activities, this will include sample extract preparation and analysis to defined techniques, completion and collation of test results, monitoring and recording of all temperature critical processes, calibration and maintenance of equipment.

You will maintain & monitor method performance via AQC, system suitability & trend analysis identifying and proactively addressing issues for assigned analyses

All performed to the required the H&S and quality standards.

Occasional weekend and bank holiday working hours will also be required.

The ideal candidate will be educated to HNC/HND level or equivalent in a science related discipline. Alternatively, candidates with science A-levels and previous relevant work experience will also be considered.

A broad understanding of laboratory quality control, regulation & audit is essential, as well as a thorough working knowledge of analytical techniques. Some experience in coaching, mentoring or supervising, providing 'on-the-job' training is preferred, as this role will require you to help develop and coach the other lab analysts within he team.

You will be constantly looking for ways to improve both yourself and processes and will be comfortable in putting your ideas forward. This role is based at our Laboratory - Spencer House just outside central Reading. This is a temp to fixed term contract where we are offering an hourly rate of £10.32 an hour. You will be working a 38 hour week.
