What is the purpose of this role?
Pertemps are delighted to be working in partnership with a business that has embarked on an industry leading approach for all waste material left over from its operational site processes. With current advances in technology there is a huge opportunity to change the end of use for unwanted waste/material into a reusable product.
As the Waste & Recycling Manager you will be responsible for the delivery of their Waste to Product strategy in order to deliver benefit from operational by-products and materials that would normally be thrown away.
You will need to ensure that the Waste to Product strategy has processes in place that reflects the requirements of environmental law and regulatory legislation whilst underpinning the Companies Corporate Social Responsibility statements and their commitment to environmental change.
You will also be responsible for their internal free cycle operation which enables operational teams to reuse and recycle items across the business.
This role will be part of their award winning Logistics Management Centre, who have the end to end view of logistics requirements for the business together with the contractual management & disposal of end of life waste/material for the business.
What makes this role unique?
As a Waste & Recycling Manager you will provide project management for the Waste to Product strategy that demonstrates their commitment to environmental change. The Waste to Product strategy is implemented in line with environmental law & regulation. You would work in conjunction with contract management and strategic sourcing teams to understand and identify waste products that can be disposed of more economically.
You would be required to identify ways to reduce waste generation and find ways to reuse and recycle what would otherwise be thrown away including management of the internal recycling operation.
What will this role involve?
Ensure a coordinated and supportive approach to stakeholders across the business in delivering operational and financial efficiencies whilst ensuring compliance with all relevant environmental and waste management legislation.
Working closely with relevant stakeholders, you will add significant value to continuous improvement where your ideas will help shape service delivery and maximise asset and resource usage.
Support the delivery of their Corporate Sustainability and Environmental mission.
Support all relevant stakeholders to deliver and ensure Duty of Care obligations are met with regards to all waste produced from our operations processes.
Responsible for the development and implementation of a range of Waste to Product strategies.
Ensure Health & Safety requirements are met within Company and legal frameworks.
Ensure that all waste to product strategies comply with environmental law and regulations.
In addition to these duties, you may be required to undertake other duties in line with the needs of the business, where appropriate training provided.
What skills are we looking for?
The ideal candidate will have relevant experience within Water or Waste or a comparable experience. You will also have previous experience in a logistics and/or prerequisite management role at another Water Utility or associated company. You are required to have a membership for the Chartered Institute of Waste Management (CIWM.)
Collaborative skills are a must, being able to work closely across the business with suppliers and 3rd parties i.e. Environmental Agencies. You will be technically experienced with a good understanding of Waste Management and Environmental Legislation including knowledge of current issues in the recycling market.
You will be required to successfully manage the delivery of waste and/or environmental projects, as well as successfully be able to negotiate and facilitate internal and external stakeholders. You will ideally have the ability to manage conflicting priorities whilst working to tight deadlines to achieve agreed targets, as well as the ability to use PRINCE2 or equivalent.
You must hold a clean driving licence.
You will be based out of their head office in Reading. You will receive a salary of £40,000 to £45,000 per annum depending on experience.
