The Education Network are currently recruiting on behalf of one of our partnership schools based in Newcastle for an SEND Teaching Assistant to begin after October half term. This is to fulfil a long term position, and is therefore a brilliant opportunity for individuals to utilise and develop their skills as an SEND Teaching Assistant in a lovely, supportive school.
As part of the SEND Teaching Assistant role, the successful candidate will be supporting a range of additional needs, mostly Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD) and Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD). The SEND Teaching Assistant will therefore be confident and competent in providing assistance for learners experiencing complex physical and communicative barriers.
Successful SEND Teaching Assistants must:
- Have recent and relevant experience in a similar role, preferably supporting children with severe Special Educational Needs, though we will accept applicants with a background in mainstream education/nursing/care.
- Have experience of dealing with challenging behaviours confidently and effectively.
- Possess the key transferrable skills required to effectively support children with SEND: confidence, patience, empathy, resilience and a nurturing personality.
- Be able to assist learning on a 1:1 and group basis – depending on the requirement.
- Have a thorough understanding of the safeguarding responsibilities of an SEND Teaching Assistant.
- Possess an enhanced DBS certificate or be willing to obtain one.
It is desirable (but not essential) that candidates have experience of:
- Team Teach
- PEG Feeding
- Epi Pen
- Moving and Handling
- Autism Awareness
- Personal Care
