An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Quantity Surveyor to work with the largest water company in UK. The role of the Quantity Surveyor is to be the main point of contact in providing commercial advice in our South London area.
The successful Quantity Surveyor would work with our estimating team to prepare tender submissions including taking quantities, preparing subcontractor and supplier enquiries, assessing and processing subcontractor payment applications etc. The post would eventually include in house training in order to extend the role to include estimating in the future.

This role offers the opportunity to carry out a diverse role with wide range of Quantity Surveying aspects from measurements on site to dispute resolutions and be the lead regional commercial point of contact with contractors. This is a unique role which offers you the opportunity to become a Chartered Quantity Surveyor. The team has a very successful structured APC training programme with a support network of a number of Chartered Quantity Surveyors, RICS APC assessors and colleagues studying to become MRICS.
This role of the Quantity Surveyor will involve:
Being responsible for all commercial aspects related to £20m of spend.
Responsibilities vary depending on the nature and stage of the project being worked on, but can include:
Preparing tender and contract documents, including bills of quantities with the architect and/or the client;
Undertaking cost analysis for repair and maintenance project work;
Assisting in establishing a client's requirements and undertaking feasibility studies;
Performing risk, value management and cost control;
Advising on procurement strategy;
Identifying, analysing and developing responses to commercial risks;
Preparing and analysing costings for tenders;
Allocating work to subcontractors;
Providing advice on contractual claims;
Analysing outcomes and writing detailed progress reports;
Valuing completed work and arranging payments;
Maintaining awareness of the different building contracts in current use;
Understanding the implications of health and safety regulations.
What skills are we looking for?
This is a very fast paced role and not static, hence it requires someone who can take ownership of events, think on their feet, devise a plan of action and implement effective solutions. You are the kind of person who takes ownership and leadership of commercial tasks. The ideal candidate will have the gravitas to communicate with senior management whilst also being able to advise on individual site based projects. To be successful in this role you will need to be a team player and work closely with operational team members. You will have the ability to hold your ground and offer reasoned advice in a fast paced environment.
Ideally but not essential the Quantity Surveyor applicant would have formal qualifications in Quantity Surveying with work history as a Quantity Surveyor for a building contractor.
Company information & Salary
This role can be either based at Reading Sewage Treatment Works in Reading, Berkshire or Crossness Sewage Treatment Plant in Dartford, Kent. Please note this role will involve travel to different company sites.
We are offering a salary of up to £50,000 per annum depending on skills and experience, plus a range of benefits including an excellent contributory pension scheme, childcare vouchers, season ticket loans and paid volunteering days.
