A Meriden-based firm is backing an initiative by Prince Charles to plant millions of trees across the country to create the Queens Green Canopy to celebrate her 70 years on the throne.

The initiative was announced by the Prince of Wales as he planted an oak sapling with Her Majesty in the grounds of Windsor Castle last month.

And this week Carmen Watson, Chair at recruitment specialist Pertemps, dug-in to join the “tree-bilee” in the grounds of the company’s head office at Meriden Hall, just outside Coventry.

“70 years in any job is unprecedented, but 70 years as Queen? Wow. We really felt we had to join the effort to do something lasting to mark the occasion,” said Carmen.“I’ve been with Pertemps for 45 years. It’s a company that has some very long-serving members of staff, each with 20-plus years, but none of us come close to the Queen’s milestone. It is incredible and should be celebrated.“I’m no gardener, but planting this tree was well worth the effort.”

It is expected that millions of trees will have been planted across the UK by the time the Platinum jubilee celebrations are over next year. The scheme is being overseen by the charity Cool Earth.
