Job Description
Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer (Electrical)
Our established well known manufacturing client based in Telford is looking for a permanent full time Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer with electrical and automation bias, to join there busy and diverse team.
You will be supporting the ongoing maintenance, reliability, and improvement of production equipment within a busy manufacturing environment, this is a hands-on role offering genuine variety and technical development. The site operates a broad range of machinery, from traditional relay-controlled systems to modern PLC-driven automation, providing excellent exposure to a wide variety of technologies, in addition you will also be supporting production operations, reducing downtime, improving equipment reliability, and ensuring safe and efficient plant performance.
In this busy role you will be carrying out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) across production machinery and site equipment, responding quickly to equipment breakdowns and carry out effective fault diagnosis and repair to minimise downtime, performing electrical and mechanical maintenance on a wide range of manufacturing equipment, supporting routine servicing and repair of motors, drives, conveyors, sensors, rollers, pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
Maintain machinery reliability to support production targets and operational efficiency, always working safely and in line with company maintenance procedures, fault finding and repairing industrial electrical systems, control panels, motors, inverters, and drives, reading and interpreting electrical drawings, schematics, and technical manuals, carrying out safe isolation and reinstatement of electrical systems in line with current regulations and procedures, working with PLC-controlled systems, including fault diagnosis, basic modifications, and troubleshooting where required, supporting the installation, commissioning, and continuous improvement of automated production equipment.
The mechanical side….. assisting with general mechanical maintenance activities alongside electrical work, diagnosing and repairing mechanical faults on production machinery and plant equipment, supporting the wider maintenance team with planned and reactive maintenance activities, welding and fabrication support where applicable (desirable but not essential) You will be working closely with production teams to resolve equipment-related issues quickly and effectively, supporting manufacturing operations by ensuring equipment uptime and performance, assisting with continuous improvement initiatives to improve efficiency, reliability, and safety
And now the legality and paperwork…..You will be maintaining a safe and tidy working environment, following company health & safety procedures, risk assessments, and safe systems of work, ensuring all maintenance activities are completed safely, correctly, and in compliance with current regulations, promoting a strong safety-first culture across the site. You will be accurately recording maintenance activities using company systems or
maintenance records, reporting recurring faults, equipment concerns, and improvement opportunities to the Maintenance Supervisor or Engineering Manager and assisting in maintaining maintenance schedules and documentation

Ideal Candidate
- Minimum 5 years’ maintenance experience within a manufacturing or production environment
- Electrical maintenance background with strong fault-finding skills
- Relevant engineering qualification (City & Guilds, NVQ Level 3, apprenticeship, HNC or equivalent)
- 18th Edition qualification or equivalent electrical certification
- Experience carrying out planned preventative maintenance (PPM)
- Ability to work independently and make sound engineering decisions under pressure
- Good understanding of industrial health & safety practices and safe isolation procedures
- Mechanical aptitude with willingness to support mechanical maintenance activities
- Strong problem-solving ability and attention to detail
- Reliable, practical, and capable of working effectively both independently and as part of a team
- Positive attitude with a willingness to learn and develop automation and PLC skills
- Experience working with PLC-controlled or automated production systems
- Basic PLC programming or modification experience
- Understanding of pneumatics and hydraulics
- Experience within manufacturing, fabrication, or heavy industrial environments
- Welding or fabrication experience
- Experience supporting continuous improvement or project work
