Alternative Provision Tutor 1:1
Location -St Helens, UK
The Education Network is currently looking for a number of Alternative Provision Tutors to work on a 1:1 basis with students throughout the St Helens area. The Education Network is an education agency, and specialist provider of 1:1 Alternative Provision Tutors throughout the North West region-we currently work directly with schools as well as 5 local authorities, and this is expanding at a rapid rate specifically within the St Helens area.
What is alternative provision?
Alternative provision (AP) is education outside school, arranged by local authorities or schools, for pupils who do not attend mainstream school for reasons such as school exclusion, behaviour issues, school refusal, or short- or long-term illness.
It includes settings such as pupil referral units (PRUs), although some pupils who are on the roll of a PRU will also attend other forms of alternative provision off-site.
We work with students from KS1 through to KS5. These learners are generally tutored off school site, often in a public building such as a library, or children's home, and occasionally at the student's home address. Many of the students are severely dis-engaged, having not attended school for some time-and as such can display challenging behaviour, or may have certain emotional barriers to learning.
Students are generally taught in short sessions of 1-2 hours at a time. Tutor timetables can be tailored to suit your individual circumstances, either on a part time or full time basis. The majority of sessions are taught within the traditional school day, but some evening sessions are also available. The majority of the learners require tuition in core subject areas-English, Maths &, Science-but sometimes our tutors work with students to encourage passions/interests that they have outside of mainstream subject areas. As well as direct 1:1 contact with learners, you will also be required to produce short progress & attendance reports (to a set standard), and may occasionally be asked to attend meetings in relation to the students progress/behaviour, etc.
The Education Network is looking for qualified teachers, who ideally have experience of working with students from similarly challenging environments, perhaps already having experience of teaching at a 1:1 level. Core subjects are the ideal, but experience can often be preferred over a particular subject area. You will have access to your own transport, be flexible in your approach, and resilient to facing extremes of behaviour. This is a very rewarding role, if you have a passion for working with students to nurture, and stimulate their learning experience then we want to hear from you.
Due to unprecedented growth we are seeking AP Tutors in all core subject areas, at all age levels throughout the Cheshire, Halton &, Merseyside areas.
The essential criteria for these positions is:
- UK Qualified Teacher Status (or equivalent)
- A passion for teaching and desire to ensure that every student is supported in their learning
- Relevant experience gained in either mainstream or specific SEND provision
- Resilience, understanding &, empathy
