Our client, a highly respected Higher Education establishment based in Glasgow, require a Service Delivery Engineer (IT Support) on a temporary basis. The salary for the position is £13.26 per hour. Hours of work are 35 per week, Monday to Friday. Day and evening shifts will form part of the working pattern.
A PVG for working with Children issued within the last 12 months is a pre-requisite for this role and applicants must be willing to apply for a scheme update for this.

Main purpose of role:

  • Working within IT Service department to provide an integrated technical service to meet needs of all partners e.g. staff, students and external partners
  • Provide a customer-focused, first-to-third-line desktop support service
  • Ensure all requests are fully tracked and processed in line with predefined SLA's and change management procedures
  • Monitor IT systems to ensure business critical systems/services are running at optimal performance and to pre-empt faults before end users are affected
  • Aid with the decision making process relating to departmental procurement of IT equipment to ensure needs of the business are fully met
Accountabilities/Responsibilities:
  • Role holder to be able and willing to adopt a practical and methodical approach due to varying and complex nature of duties
  • 2Continually research and analyse IT literature, printed and digital, to further enhance understanding of technologies and develop a progressive support service
  • To communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, technical information of varying complexity to stakeholders of all levels in a manner appropriate to their level of understanding and experience
  • High level of investigative skill is required to deal with the reactive element of the role and ever-changing technologies
  • Prepare relevant documentation: reports, procedures and guides to support end-users in use of software and IT staff in the operation of systems
  • Liaise frequently with internal and external partners relating to college IT services and further promotion of the college's image e.g. support of external client events
  • Experience with enterprise telephony systems i.e. PSTN/VoIP to support end user devices
  • Experience with Transas ship simulator systems
  • Contribute to ensuring IT security is maintained through continual monitoring of security systems and ensuring end-point protection is fully patched
  • Regularly hold end-user assistance and advice as to proficient usage of software/hardware through demonstrations and tutorials
  • Maintain an up to date inventory of IT equipment and software deployments that is fully tracked for audit and license purposes
  • Experience of supporting a large and diverse range of software: both system management and end-user, due to the educational nature of the establishment
  • Participate in IT departmental projects to further integrate IT systems within the education environment and develop those systems to meet the needs of the future
  • Regularly participate in inter-departmental meetings relating to IT projects, procurement and support
  • Role holder is required to plan, organize and process their own workload based on service-desk jobs and on-going maintenance
  • Responsible for business desktop environment e.g. deployment, maintenance and end user support
  • Support of all mobile devices including tablets, mobiles and laptops e.g. Android and Apple
  • Experience with maintenance and support of AV and video conferencing equipment sound systems etc
  • Experience with desktop virtualization technologies and thin client deployments e.g. Citrix XenDesktop
  • Experience of deployment and management of mobile devices (tablets, mobile telephones etc) within an enterprise environment
  • Experience of Windows 10, Windows Server platforms, Active Directory, Mac OS X, and associated technologies within an enterprise e.g. deployment, management and user support using SCCM
Key Skills and Requirements:
  • HNC/SVQ Level III qualification and/or equivalent level qualification in a relevant subject or demonstrable experience
  • Experience or knowledge of SCCM, software packaging, Citrix application virtualization, Citrix VDI, software updates and patching, Apple remote desktop, macOS imaging and audio-visual appliances
  • Previous experience of working within a Service Delivery Engineer role
  • Understanding or experience of working with virtual desktops, application virtualization, mobile devices, active directory and PowerShell is desirable
  • Knowledge of Windows or MAC environment and classical desktop applications.
  • Knowledge of software application installation and maintenance
  • Good communication, liaison and networking skills
  • An ability to work individually and as part of a team
  • Excellent IT skills, with a working knowledge of MS Office, Word, Excel and Databases.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage conflicting priorities and meet deadlines to the satisfaction of all parties
