Job Details

• To manage the haulage fleet (Franchisee & Company Owned) and to act as a point of contact for hauliers in the region. The role holder will be responsible for company owned vehicle and driver compliance to Health & Safety, EU regulations, Working Time Directive and all aspects or road transport law

Agreement of special rates in conjunction with transport manager and distribution manager.

Provide support in the resolution of haulier queries.

Liaise with Distribution, Sales and Operations to ensure effective customer service and resource utilisation.

Manage any discipline issues that may occur.

Act as a point of contact for hauliers.

Review current methods of operation and identify areas for improvement.

Provide support to the transport manager in reviewing haulage rates.

Continuous assessment of training needs to ensure all company drivers are fully competent in all relevant business requirements

Ensure compliance by staff of all statutory legislation and company regulations in respect of transport, health and safety and any other requirements in respect of haulage and delivery arrangements.

Ensure the company fleet is maintained and operated at the highest standard, with full compliance to all regulatory requirements.

Ensure that all company drivers are correctly trained and managed to achieve the required service and operational performance

To ensure KPI's are maintained and actions put in place to make improvements where necessary.

To monitor the daily performance of hauliers to include availability, punctuality, reliability and condition of the fleet & take corrective actions where required.

To be open and honest with colleagues and team members to ensure issues are addressed which impact on any aspects of the business.


o CPC qualification

o Higher level qualifications (English and Maths)

o Management Qualifications (including Hanson Certificate in Management (NESUM)

o NVQ – Level 3


o Previous experience of managing a team.

o Demonstrable experience in a transport/logistics role with responsibility for process improvements

o Previous experience in a similar position within the building materials industry
