Salary: £14.50 per hour 

Hours: 40 hours per week + overtime

 

About the Role

We are looking for a motivated and reliable Trainee Geotechnical Site Operative to join an established ground investigation team.

No previous geotechnical experience is required, as full training will be provided. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working outdoors, travelling to different locations and learning practical skills, with a clear pathway to progress into a Lead Geotechnical Site Operative role.

You will work alongside experienced operatives on ground investigation projects for construction and engineering clients, gaining hands-on experience across a wide range of site activities.

What You'll Be Doing

As you develop your skills, your training will include:

• Assisting with borehole drilling, trial pits, soil sampling and in-situ testing.
  
  
• Collecting laboratory samples and completing accurate site records.
  
  
• Driving company vehicles and learning how to safely identify underground services.
  
  
• Working in accordance with RAMS, risk assessments and company procedures.
  
  
• Operating borehole rigs, dynamic probes, mini piling equipment and excavators where appropriately trained and licensed.
  
  
• Carrying out CBR, plate bearing and BRE 365 infiltration testing.
  
  
• Undertaking drainage CCTV surveys and concrete core drilling.
  
  
• Using digital systems such as iAuditor to complete site records.
  
  
• Progressing towards leading site investigations and supervising junior operatives.

Essential Requirements

• Full UK Driving Licence.
  
  
• Applicants must be 25 years of age or over and have held a full UK driving licence for a minimum of 3 years, due to current vehicle insurance requirements.
  
  

 

Previous experience in construction, ground investigation, civil engineering or a similar practical environment would be useful, but is not essential as full training will be provided.

 

Working Hours & Travel

The standard working week is 40 hours, plus overtime opportunities.

Start and finish times will vary depending on customer requirements and site locations. The role involves a significant amount of travel, and some days may involve early starts to travel to a site, with an earlier finish once the day's work is completed.
