Telehandler Operator
Location: Plymouth, PL9
Hours: Monday–Friday, 8am–4/5pm
Pay: £13.90 per hour
Assignment: Approx. 8‑week temporary assignment
Start: Immediate / ASAP
We are seeking a dependable, safety‑driven individual to support one of our clients busy operational site during a peak period.
This role is ideal for someone with hands‑on experience in manual labour, plant operations, and telehandler work, particularly within recycling, waste management, construction, or other industrial environments.
You’ll play a key part in ensuring the smooth, safe and efficient movement of materials across the site while maintaining high standards of safety and professionalism.
About the Role
As a Telehandler Operator / Site Operative, you will be responsible for the safe movement of materials, supporting daily site operations, and ensuring the site remains clean, compliant and well‑organised.
This is a physically active role that requires strong awareness of safety, good communication skills, and the ability to work effectively within a team.
You will be working in a fast‑paced environment where public access is common, so a calm, confident and safety‑focused approach is essential.

Key Responsibilities
- Operate a rough terrain telescopic forklift (telehandler) to safely lift, move and position materials across the site
- Load and unload vehicles using plant machinery, ensuring accuracy and adherence to site protocols
- Transport, lift and direct loads (including potentially hazardous materials) in line with Health & Safety legislation and site procedures
- Conduct daily vehicle and plant checks, completing all required maintenance logs and promptly reporting defects
- Maintain a clean, tidy and hazard‑free site by responding to spillages, clearing debris, and identifying unsafe practices
- Monitor public use of the site, ensuring safe behaviour and intervening where necessary to prevent accidents
- Support traffic management by guiding vehicles, directing site users, and helping maintain safe traffic flow
- Work collaboratively with the wider team to ensure operational targets and safety standards are consistently met
- Follow all site rules, PPE requirements and operational procedures at all times
We are looking for someone who can demonstrate:
- Previous experience in labouring, heavy manual work, or operational site work
- A solid understanding of Health & Safety within an industrial, recycling, construction or similar environment
- Experience operating plant machinery for loading and unloading vehicles
- Proven experience operating a rough terrain telescopic forklift (telehandler)
- Experience within a recycling or waste management facility is highly desirable
- A valid, accredited telehandler certificate (LANTRA, CITB/CSCS, NPORS)
- Alternatively, a willingness to obtain certification within one month of appointment
- Strong awareness of safety, with the ability to identify and report hazards
- Good communication skills and the confidence to interact with members of the public
- A reliable, punctual and proactive approach to work
