Job Description

We are currently seeking a process controller.  You will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of Coppermills Advanced Water Treatment Works water production works to ensure wholesome water is available 24 hours a day for our customers.  You will work as part of a team to ensure the effective and continuous operation of the site and ensure all necessary process values and regulations are strictly adhered to.
You will work as part of a team of nineteen and perform a range of assigned operational duties including site operation, water quality sampling and testing, routine process checks including health and safety checks, front-line maintenance and problem-solving to name a few, and ensure that services are delivered to time, cost, and quality standards.  This role will be on a 12-hour rotating shift pattern.  You must be able to work unsupervised for long periods.
What you’ll be doing as The Process Controller
  • Receive training to undertake a variety of roles within the team under our Licence to Operate program.
  • Monitor and control the range of water treatment processes via SCADA, working as a team to ensure the water production plant's operation 24/7, 365 days a year, while also working alongside and assisting the maintenance team, management team and other operational roles to ensure site-wide key performance indicators are met.
  • Carry out sampling and related analysis to ensure compliance with internal standards and external regulations.
  • Be responsible for the front-line maintenance and process fault-finding while reporting any defective equipment, ensuring a swift resolution following any breakdowns, monitoring, collating, and reporting data to ensure statutory and regulatory compliance is met and the works meet regulatory quality standards and customer demand.
  • Be responsible for responding to emergencies, whether this be operational failures or other events. In such circumstances, you will remain calm and follow established procedures to escalate, and then stabilise the process or identify and isolate the issue at hand.
  • comply with operational standards, completing associated documentation including shift logbooks.
  • Take responsibility for your own Health and Safety and also the Health and Safety on site.
  • You will highlight safety observations and take action to make the area safe where possible. 
  • You will be required to contribute to risk assessments and procedures that contribute to improving Health and Safety standards. 
  • This is important given the site is governed under COMAH Regulations.
  • Liaise with other departments, particularly Water Quality, Maintenance and Strategic Control to find solutions for issues, deliver the best results for the site and ensure production targets are met.
  • Maintain own technical knowledge and training to meet current or new standards and remain up to date with new standards and procedures.
  • Base Location: Coppermills – East London - E17 7HE.
  • Working Pattern. A six-week shift cycle consisting of fourteen 12-hour shifts (seven days and seven nights) with an eight-day and sixteen-day rest period included.
What you should bring to the role
  • We are looking for someone who has process experience in relevant industry, hold leadership tendencies, is hands-on and practical with impeccable attention to detail and troubleshooting skills.
  • Completion of NVQ level 2 units or equivalent, a technical City and Guilds or HNC qualification is also desirable.
  • Experience of lone working and be willing to work in challenging conditions.
  • You must be prepared to be trained in safety procedures including working in confined spaces, chemical treatment breathing apparatus, first aid, fire marshalling and receiving chemical deliveries.
  • Have basic literacy, numeracy, and computer skills, as you will need to use email and operate the plant computers / SCADA equipment.
  • Be computer literate, specifically with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Previous experience of SCADA systems would be advantageous.
  • Possess a valid driving licence.
