Job Description

We are seeking an Environment Incident Advisor to join our busy team. The team’s goal is to minimise the impact of Thames Water’s operations on the environment.
The purpose of the role is to thoroughly investigate and report on environmental incidents. By digging down to understand the underlying issues, you will use this insight to drive event learning throughout the business. This includes critical analysis and scrutiny of environmental and operational data. These improvement recommendations will involve influencing people you will work with every day, to change our ways of working to improve operational performance and reduce environmental harm.  
A key activity is to engage and collaborate with our regulator, the Environment Agency through effective and influential written communication. Your role is key to making sure we get the right information to them, at the right time. Your reports will require you to include accurate, technical information and language.

What you’ll be doing as Environment Incident Advisor
  • Investigate environmental incidents and technical documents for the regulator.
  • Interpret and analyse scientific reports and data regarding environmental impact and operational performance.
  • Conduct root cause analysis to identify event learning, and feed this back to relevant colleagues through routine meetings or dedicated training sessions.
  • Respond to requests for information/data from internal and external stakeholders.
  • Coach and support team members to improve general team performance.
  • Contribute to discussions regarding pollution reduction initiatives.
Base Location: Hybrid-Flexible within TW region.
Working hours: Monday-Friday 36 hours per week.
What you should bring to the role
  • Strong communication skills, both written (including report writing) and verbal.
  • A good working knowledge of Microsoft Office is essential.
  • Be curious and use initiative.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
  • Be passionate about the environment and keen to make a difference.
  • Ability to work to deadlines is essential.
  • Previous experience in utilities or an environmental role and/or working with regulatory bodies would be advantageous.
  • Understanding of waste network and waste treatment operations is desirable, but not essential
  • Awareness and understanding of key Environmental Legislation or Regulations. (for example CICS, 16_02)
  • A full UK driving licence is desirable.
