Job Description
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is looking to get into an Estimating environment at Thames Water. If you have the passion to learn, not only you will be in one of the only roles in the organisation where you will be able to use our unique, water industry specific cost modelling / estimating system. You will also get a great insight to where we are looking to invest in the future and what costs are involved within our asset investment plans.
Your primary responsibility will be to develop robust, transparent, and auditable cost models to support key internal and external stakeholders. These models will be produced mainly within our corporate estimating system, ensuring consistency with organisational standards and best practices.
You will work closely with the Lead Estimators, seeking costing guidance and technical support as required to ensure accuracy and completeness. In addition to cost modelling, you will also have the opportunity to contribute to the estimating of small to medium-sized projects, providing end-to-end support as needed.

What you’ll be doing as an Estimating System Analyst
- Review, cleanse, and analyse small to medium cost/carbon data to enable the quarterly updating of the cost unit cost database for the infrastructure quadrant.
- Lead stakeholder meetings at key milestones, ensuring alignment on coding, costing methodologies to progress the development of new unit cost/carbon models.
- Lead the development and delivery of action plans addressing strengths, weaknesses, and improvement opportunities within the infrastructure unit cost and carbon models, ensuring that findings are implemented effectively across the modelling process.
- Assist in identifying and developing opportunities to enhance the end to end cost and carbon modelling process, including improving data quality, streamlining workflows, strengthening governance, and supporting the adoption of new tools or methodologies.
- Review and check designer scope templates using project brief and detailed drawings to ensure scope is aligned to coding structure and details are correct prior to costing for small to medium value schemes, query as appropriate
- Provide database costing support for small to medium size schemes to key stakeholders including business planning, early stage estimating and benchmarking process where required use non-database rates seek support from Lead for any special site-specific costs.
- Challenging key stakeholder project costs for non-complex schemes through ‘value for money’ statement development for small to medium infrastructure schemes, helping drive through commercial cost efficiency challenges
- Assist in providing relevant support to the Estimating Support Manager and/or the wider EES team as and when required.

What you should bring to the role
To thrive in this role, the essential criteria you’ll need is:
- Strong analytical skills and a passion for working with numbers
- Experience in cost modelling or data analysis or estimating functions
- Proficiency with Excel, modelling tools, or data analysis software
- Experience within the water industry or a closely related sector, with an understanding of regulatory environments
- Strong ability to interpret complex technical, financial, or carbon related information and communicate clearly to a range of stakeholders
- Understanding of embodied carbon
- Competitive salary circa £45,000 per annum, depending on experience
- Annual Leave - 26 days holiday per year increasing to 30 with the length of service (plus bank holidays)
