Job Description

Are you an experienced technician with a passion for solving problems and improving water networks?  

Join Thames Water as a DMA Performance Technician and play a vital role in creating healthy district metered areas (DMA’s), through reducing leakage and enhancing the performance of our clean water network.  
In this role, you’ll take ownership of a patch of District Metered Areas (DMAs), using data insights, field expertise, and problem-solving skills to maintain network health and deliver real improvements.  

This is a field-based role, offering variety, autonomy, and the opportunity to make a tangible impact every day. 

What you’ll be doing as a DMA Performance Technician: 
  • Take full accountability for leakage and operability performance across your assigned DMAs.
    • Analyse flow, pressure, and asset data to identify trends, issues, and improvement opportunities.
    • Support leak detection activity and unaccounted-for-water reduction campaigns.
    • Develop and deliver both reactive and long-term plans to improve network performance  
    • Respond to DMA points of interest and complete effective interventions that resolve DMA health/operability issues.
    • Work collaboratively with internal teams and contractors to ensure safe, high-quality, and cost-effective repairs.
    • Engage with customers and stakeholders, providing clear communication during planned and reactive works.
    • Continuously review performance data to drive efficiency and innovation.
    • Champion and promote a strong health & safety culture in all activities. 
The essential criteria to help you succeed in this role is: 
  • Proven experience in leakage management, water networks, or utilities operations would be beneficial.
    • Strong ability to interpret data and translate it into practical actions.
    • Hands-on experience in field-based leak detection and network operations.
    • Demonstrated problem-solving skills and a proactive mindset.
    • Experience managing both reactive and planned leakage reduction activities.
    • Ability to work with multiple stakeholders, including contractors and operational teams.
    • Background in a safety-critical, customer-focused environment.
    • Good understanding of:
    • Clean water networks and distribution systems.
    • Water mains and associated assets.
    • Domestic plumbing and leakage behaviour.
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Experience in coordinating work or projects is desirable.
    • Full UK driving licence and confidence travelling between sites.
What’s in it for you? 
  • Offering a salary between £30,000 and £45,200 per annum, depending on experience.
    • Overtime available when required.
    • There may be an ad-hoc need for night work activity as we design the working pattern for this role. This will be agreed with sufficient notice and you will be remunerated accordingly. 
    • Annual Leave - 24 days holiday per year, increasing to 28 with the length of service. (plus bank holidays)
    • The performance-related pay plan is directly linked to company performance measures and targets.
