SEN Teaching Assistant (SLD/PMLD)
Special Educational Needs Teaching Assistants are required at a large specialist 6th form college in Manchester.. This college caters for post 16 students who have Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties, can be non verbal so knowledge of any communication strategies is helpful.
The college try to create a learning environment that is inclusive and helps the students make a successful transition into adulthood. This is done by developing their skills, independence and confidence through a wide range of activities.
Personalised learning programmes are developed that helps them work towards their goals. There is a large, experienced and friendly staff team there to help meet students' needs, whether they want to attend college full-time, part-time or on a combined programme.
You will support students with a variety of SEN needs, including PLMD (Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities), ASD (Autism), SLD (Severe Learning Difficulties) and EBD (Emotional Behaviour Difficulties).
As a SEN TA it is vital that you are patient, understanding and compassionate. You will require a variety of challenge so it is very important you can react and use your initiative.
Candidates must have:
Experience with children with similar needs
Previous SEN TA experience
Knowledge of SLD, ASD, PMLD, EBD and Mental Health
Interest in working with children
A positive and enthusiastic approach
An understanding of Makaton, PECS, SCIPP would be really helpful
