Assistant Fire Engineer
Location: Sheffield (Hybrid)
Salary: £29,000 - £42,000
Job Type: Full-time


The Opportunity
An established fire engineering consultancy is looking to recruit an Assistant Fire Engineer to support the delivery of fire engineering projects across residential, commercial, healthcare, education, industrial and mixed-use developments.

This is an excellent opportunity for a graduate or early-career professional looking to develop their technical skills alongside experienced fire engineers, with structured training and clear progression opportunities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with the preparation of fire strategies and planning fire statements
    • Review architectural drawings and identify fire safety considerations
    • Support technical reviews of means of escape, compartmentation, fire doors and passive fire protection
    • Contribute to technical reports, design reviews and feasibility studies
    • Attend site visits with senior engineers and record findings
    • Assist with fire risk assessments, compartmentation surveys and fire door inspections
    • Research and apply relevant fire safety guidance, including Approved Document B and British Standards

Requirements
Essential
  • Degree (or working towards) in Fire Engineering, Building Services, Construction, Architecture, Engineering or a related discipline
    • Strong interest in fire engineering and the built environment
    • Ability to interpret technical drawings
    • Excellent written communication and organisational skills
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office

Desirable
  • Experience within fire safety, consultancy, building control or construction
    • Knowledge of Approved Document B and relevant British Standards
    • Experience with AutoCAD, Revit or Bluebeam
    • Full UK driving licence
