About the Role A welcoming and inclusive primary school in Lambeth is seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join their specialist Autism Resource Base. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with experience supporting children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and complex needs who is passionate about making a meaningful impact.
Working closely with the Class Teacher, SENCO and wider multidisciplinary team, you will support pupils in a structured, low-arousal learning environment designed to help them develop communication, independence and social skills.
This role would suit a patient, proactive and resilient individual who thrives in a supportive SEN environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with Autism and complex needs.
    • Support pupils to access the curriculum and complete learning activities.
    • Promote communication, social interaction and emotional regulation using personalised strategies.
    • Implement behaviour support plans and encourage positive behaviour management.
    • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, LSAs and therapists to ensure consistent support.
    • Monitor and record pupil progress, engagement and behaviour.
    • Support pupils during transitions, playtimes and other unstructured periods of the day.
Candidate Requirements Essential
  • Experience supporting children with Autism or complex SEN in a school setting.
    • Understanding of communication strategies and sensory needs.
    • Patient, empathetic and resilient with strong interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to work collaboratively within a team and follow guidance from teachers and SENCOs.
    • Enhanced DBS on the update service or willingness to obtain one.
Desirable
  • Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification.
    • Experience using PECS, Makaton, visual supports or sensory strategies.
    • Team Teach or behaviour management training.
    • First Aid qualification.
