Job Description

Teaching Assistant – Alternative Provision, Birmingham
Are you a Teaching Assistant who can build positive relationships with young people who have struggled in mainstream education? This dynamic alternative provision in Birmingham is looking for a resilient, patient and confident Teaching Assistant to support secondary-aged students who have been excluded from mainstream schools.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys working with young people who need a different approach to education. Students attending alternative provision often face challenges with behaviour, engagement, emotional regulation and confidence. As a Teaching Assistant, you will play an important role in helping them re-engage with learning, develop positive relationships and make progress towards their next steps.

You will need to be confident supporting students with challenging behaviour, maintaining clear boundaries and working alongside teachers to create a positive and structured learning environment. Experience in an alternative provision, PRU, SEMH school or mainstream secondary school would be beneficial, particularly if you have worked with students who struggle to manage their behaviour or engagement.

Job Role:
  • Support secondary-aged students who have been excluded from mainstream education.
    • Work alongside teachers to support learning across the secondary curriculum.
    • Provide classroom support and, where required, individual assistance to students.
    • Build positive relationships with students who may be disengaged from education.
    • Support students with challenging behaviour, emotional regulation and engagement.
    • Maintain clear boundaries and reinforce positive behaviour expectations.
    • Help create a calm, structured and supportive learning environment.
    • Encourage students to develop confidence, resilience and positive learning habits.
    • Support students to re-engage with education and work towards their future goals.
In return you will:
  • Work in a rewarding alternative provision setting where your contribution genuinely matters.
    • Have the opportunity to make a difference to young people who need additional support.
    • Develop your experience working with SEMH and challenging behaviour.
    • Work alongside experienced education professionals.
    • Receive ongoing support from an experienced education recruitment consultant.
    • Have the opportunity to develop your career within specialist education.
If you are a Teaching Assistant who enjoys supporting young people with challenging behaviour and wants to make a genuine difference, please ‘Apply Now’ or contact Harry at The Education Network Birmingham.
