SEN Teaching Assistant (Autism Focus)
 
A reputable Ofsted-rated 'Good' primary school in Selly Oak is seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to provide personalised support to a child with Autism on a 1:1 basis. This role presents an excellent opportunity for a Psychology graduate interested in gaining valuable experience in the field of Autism and pursuing a career in educational or clinical psychology.

Role Overview: The successful candidate will work closely with a child diagnosed with Autism, providing tailored support to meet their specific needs and facilitate their educational progress. This role requires a compassionate and patient individual who is passionate about supporting children with Autism and helping them thrive in a school environment.
 
Key Responsibilities:
  • Establishing a trusting and supportive relationship with the child, fostering a sense of security and confidence.
  • Implementing individualised strategies and interventions to support the child's communication, social interaction, and academic development.
  • Assisting the child in navigating sensory sensitivities and managing emotional regulation challenges.
  • Collaborating with teachers and other professionals to create a supportive and inclusive learning environment for the child.
  • Monitoring the child's progress and adjusting support strategies as necessary to ensure continued growth and success.
 
Requirements:
  • A degree in Psychology or a related field, with a strong interest in Autism and developmental disorders.
  • Previous experience working with individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is highly desirable.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with children and build positive relationships.
  • Empathy, patience, and a genuine passion for supporting the unique needs of children with Autism.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to meet the evolving needs of the child and the school environment.
