Job Description
Science Academic Coach
Could you help KS4 pupils improve in Science by making difficult topics easier to understand? Are you looking for a secondary school role that gives you proper classroom experience before teacher training?
*** Science Academic Coach
*** September 2026 to July 2027
*** £85 - £105 per day
*** Large secondary, Ward of Edgbaston
*** Tailored academic support to Science KS4 students
The Role:
Work with the Science department to support KS4 pupils who need extra help with classwork, revision, and exam preparation. You will deliver 1:1 and small-group intervention, reinforce lesson content, and keep teachers updated on pupil progress. Teaching assistants commonly support teachers in the classroom and help pupils with reading, writing, and wider learning activities.
The Candidate:
You are clear, reliable, and able to explain scientific ideas in a way pupils can follow. You want practical secondary school experience, enjoy helping pupils build confidence in a core subject, and are keen to develop the classroom skills needed for a future in teaching. Secondary school teachers work with young people aged 11 to 16, or up to 19 in schools with sixth forms.
Requirements
The School:
This large secondary school in the Ward of Edgbaston offers the chance to build valuable subject-based experience in a busy Science department. You will join a setting where targeted intervention is used properly, classroom support has a clear purpose, and pupils benefit from extra academic guidance in the run-up to their key assessments. GOV.UK guidance updated on 20 January 2026 says work that falls within the definition of work with children is eligible for an Enhanced DBS check in the child workforce, with some regulated activity roles also eligible for barred list checks.
