Job Description
*** Graduate Teaching Assistant
*** £18,000 annual salary plus accommodation
*** September 2026 to July 2027
*** Superb boarding school based in Horsham
*** Provide academic and boarding school support
Are you a graduate looking to build school-based experience before teacher training or a long-term career in education? This Graduate Teaching Assistant role gives you the chance to support pupils academically, contribute to boarding life, and play a full part in a busy and high-achieving school community.
This is a one-year contract starting in September 2026, offering a salary of £18,000 plus accommodation. Meals will be provided when on duty. The role would suit someone who is confident, organised and ready to get involved in both classroom support and the wider life of a boarding school. Similar assistant roles at this school have previously led to teacher training, further school-based posts and wider careers in education and pupil development.
The Role
As a Graduate Teaching Assistant, you will support pupils across the school through a mix of academic, pastoral and practical duties. You will work closely with teaching staff, helping to support learning in lessons, assisting with classroom delivery, and providing additional help to pupils where needed. You may also be asked to supervise classes, help with timetables and day-to-day organisation, and contribute to the smooth running of a busy school environment.
This is not a role where you disappear at 3.30 and pretend children stop existing. You will also be involved in boarding school life, supporting pupils outside the classroom and taking an active role in the wider community. The school has a strong boarding culture and expects staff to contribute fully to student life, pastoral support and extracurricular activity.
The Candidate
You should be a graduate with a genuine interest in education and young people. You will need strong communication skills, a calm and professional manner, and the confidence to build positive relationships with pupils and staff. A willingness to contribute to boarding responsibilities and the broader life of the school is essential.
This role would suit someone considering teacher training, pastoral work or a long-term future in schools. You should be proactive, dependable and ready to take on a varied position in a structured and supportive environment.
The School
This is a well-established co-educational boarding school in Horsham with a broad educational and extracurricular offering. The school employs a large staff team and places strong value on pupil development, community involvement and participation beyond the classroom. Boarding is a central part of school life, and students are supported through both academic provision and wider pastoral care.

This Graduate Teaching Assistant role is ideal for someone who wants valuable school experience in a prestigious boarding environment while developing the skills needed for a future career in education.
