Pay rate £19.20 per hour

Vitalis are recruiting for an experienced Homelessness Prevention Officer in West Yorkshire.
 
Main duties and responsibilities
Work with the Housing Options team in the front line Homelessness Prevention Service to provide support and advice to households to prevent and relieve homelessness and to secure and maintain tenancies.

Interview customers who present as homeless or in housing need to the Housing Options Service and give specific advice and information on homelessness prevention, securing accommodation if homeless, and the help that’s available.

Interview customers where there is a reason to believe they’re eligible and homeless, complete an assessment of their needs and develop fit for purpose personal housing plans. Produce and issue required written documentation, e.g. plans and decision letters.

Carry a caseload of clients and undertake comprehensive and hands on homelessness prevention work. This will include negotiating with landlords, parents and others and advocating with a range of organisations and agencies.

Support households who now find themselves homeless or at risk of homelessness by developing relationships with colleagues, partner agencies, housing providers, voluntary agencies and community groups, etc to broaden knowledge of homelessness services and build effective referral routes, ensuring close liaison, co-operation and information exchange as appropriate to ensure better outcomes.
Knowledge of homelessness legislation is essential, with a particular focus on the duties contained within Part VII of the Housing Act 1996 as amended by the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017. The postholder must have a sound understanding of prevention and relief duties, including assessing housing needs, developing Personalised Housing Plans, and working proactively with households and partner agencies to prevent and relieve homelessness in accordance with statutory requirements and guidance
