Terrestrial Ecology Assistant
Location: Bangor, hybrid working after training
Pay Rate: £13.96 per hour
Hours: 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday
Assignment Length: Temporary assignment until 31 March 2027 minimum
Working Pattern: Office based initially, moving to hybrid working after training
Start Date: ASAP
Are you passionate about terrestrial ecology and looking for an opportunity to develop your experience within a professional environmental team?
We're recruiting for a Terrestrial Ecology Assistant to join a team of ecologists based in Bangor, providing important administrative, data and fieldwork support to help the team deliver their work effectively.
This is a varied role that would suit someone with a genuine enthusiasm for ecology, the environment and working outdoors, alongside good basic administrative and IT skills.
You will work closely with experienced terrestrial ecologists, assisting with the preparation of information for site visits, reports and wider ecological projects. The role will also involve some fieldwork, giving you the opportunity to gain valuable practical experience within the sector.
What you'll be doing
• Supporting a team of terrestrial ecologists with their day to day work
• Digitising and organising historical photographs and ecological information
• Pulling together data and information in preparation for site visits
• Preparing information and supporting documentation for ecological reports
• Assisting with data entry, checking and organisation
• Supporting ecologists with general administrative tasks and project work
• Attending site visits and carrying out field based support where required
• Working with existing ecological data and records
• Ensuring information is accurately recorded and organised
• Using Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel and Outlook
• Providing general administrative and practical support to the wider ecology team
• Working collaboratively with experienced ecologists and other colleagues
• Supporting other tasks and projects as required
What we're looking for
• A genuine enthusiasm and interest in terrestrial ecology and the environment
• An interest in developing a career or further experience within ecology or environmental work
• Basic administrative and IT skills
• Good attention to detail when working with data and information
• Good organisational skills and the ability to manage tasks effectively
• Comfortable working with Microsoft Office applications
• Willingness to learn new systems, processes and ways of working
• Comfortable working both independently and as part of a wider team
• Good communication skills
• A practical and flexible approach to work
• Willingness to undertake fieldwork and work outdoors when required
• The ability to follow instructions and work effectively alongside experienced ecologists
• Previous experience within ecology, environmental work, conservation or a related area would be advantageous but is not essential
