Job Description

We are currently supporting our client in the appointment of an experienced HR Adviser to join their People team on an initial 12-week fixed-term contract, with the possibility of an extension. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced HR professional who is confident providing pragmatic advice and guidance to managers, with strong Employee Relations (ER) experience being critical for this role.

The Role

As an HR Adviser, you will provide professional and knowledgeable HR advice and guidance to line managers across a broad range of people matters. You will manage HR cases from initial enquiry through to resolution, ensuring that advice is accurate, appropriately documented and aligned with employment legislation and organisational policies. You will also play an important role in coaching managers, helping to build their confidence and capability in handling people-related matters, while contributing to the ongoing improvement of HR policies, procedures and guidance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide timely, accurate and pragmatic HR advice and guidance to line managers.
    • Manage and support a varied caseload of Employee Relations matters, ensuring cases are handled appropriately and within agreed timescales.
    • Provide advice and support across areas including disciplinary, grievance and capability cases.
    • Ensure HR cases are accurately recorded and kept up to date throughout the case lifecycle.
    • Provide guidance to managers on employment legislation, HR policies and procedures.
    • Support managers in understanding their responsibilities and involvement throughout the ER process.
    • Draft and prepare appropriate HR correspondence and documentation.
    • Ensure agreed outcomes are implemented accurately and within agreed timescales.
    • Escalate complex or sensitive matters where appropriate.
    • Work collaboratively with HR colleagues and relevant stakeholders to achieve appropriate outcomes.
    • Coach and support line managers to improve their confidence and effectiveness in managing people matters.
    • Identify opportunities to improve HR policies, procedures, processes and manager guidance.
    • Contribute ideas and feedback to support continuous improvement across the People function.
    • Maintain accurate employee records and ensure appropriate documentation is retained.
    • Support colleagues across the wider HR team as required.

About You

  • Previous experience working in an HR Adviser or HR generalist role.
    • Strong, demonstrable Employee Relations experience – this is critical.
    • Experience advising managers on disciplinary, grievance and capability matters.
    • A good working knowledge of UK employment law and HR best practice.
    • Experience managing an HR/ER caseload from initial advice through to resolution.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to draft clear and appropriate HR correspondence.
    • The confidence to provide constructive challenge and advice to managers.
    • Strong coaching and influencing skills.
    • Experience handling difficult and sensitive conversations.
    • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
    • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office and experience using HR systems/HRIS.
    • A relevant HR qualification such as CIPD, or equivalent experience.

What We're Looking For

Our client is looking for someone who can hit the ground running and add value quickly within the initial 12-week assignment.
You will be confident working independently, comfortable dealing with sensitive and sometimes complex employee relations matters, and able to provide clear, practical and commercially appropriate advice.
You'll be a strong communicator with a collaborative approach, good attention to detail and the ability to build effective relationships with stakeholders at all levels.
The Opportunity

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced HR Adviser looking for a 12-week FTC, with the potential for the contract to be extended depending on business requirements.
If you have strong Employee Relations experience and are available to take on a short-term assignment where you can make an immediate impact, we'd be keen to hear from you.
