We are currently recruiting for a Tooling Technician to join a well-established and growing precision manufacturing business.

This is an important role within the manufacturing operation, responsible for ensuring that CNC tooling is correctly prepared, inspected and available ahead of machine setup. You will also take ownership of the day-to-day organisation of the tool build area and help ensure tooling stock is maintained to prevent delays to production.

The role would suit an experienced CNC Tooling Technician, Toolmaker, CNC Setter/Operator or experienced machinist looking to develop their skills in tooling. Training can be provided for the right candidate, particularly around the company's specific tooling, press setter and grinding processes.

Key Responsibilities

• Build CNC tooling accurately and to specification.
  
  
• Prepare and inspect tooling ahead of machine setup.
  
  
• Use a tool press setter to check tool dimensions, condition and runout.
  
  
• Record tool builds and complete the required sign-off documentation.
  
  
• Maintain the tool build area, ensuring it remains organised, clean and fully operational.
  
  
• Re-grind and dress worn tooling using a cutter grinder, ensuring the correct forms and profiles are maintained.
  
  
• Monitor tooling stock levels and raise shortages or purchasing requirements.
  
  
• Work closely with Programming, Production Supervision, Engineering and Quality teams.
  
  
• Complete relevant paperwork and maintain accurate tooling records.
  
  
• Carry out general housekeeping and maintain high standards of cleanliness and organisation.
  
  
• Follow company procedures and all relevant Health & Safety requirements.
  
  
• Undertake other reasonable duties as required by senior management.
  
  

About You

We are looking for someone who takes pride in producing accurate, high-quality work and understands the importance of getting tooling right before it reaches the machine.

Ideally, you will have:

• Experience within a CNC, machining, tooling or precision engineering environment.
  
  
• Knowledge of common CNC cutting tools and tool holding.
  
  
• Good attention to detail and the ability to work accurately to documented specifications.
  
  
• A methodical and organised approach to stock control and record keeping.
  
  
• Good communication skills and the confidence to raise issues promptly.
  
  
• Basic IT skills and the ability to complete documentation and use Microsoft Office.
  
  
• Experience using a tool press setter would be advantageous.
  
  
• Experience of carbide tool re-grinding, dressing or forming would be advantageous.
  
  
• A willingness to learn and develop specialist tooling skills.
  
  

 

We are particularly interested in candidates with a strong CNC or machining background who are keen to develop their knowledge of tooling and tool preparation.
