Role: Laboratory Technician
Location: Edinburgh East (Seafield – Scientific Services)
Working Hours: 08:30 – 17:00 (36 hours per week) – typical days off are Thursday and Friday
Pay Rate: £16.07 per hour
Duration: Temporary, ongoing
Start Date: ASAP

Key Responsibilities
In this varied and practical role, your duties will include:
- Preparing food and water samples for microbiological testing
- Accurately recording data and maintaining laboratory records
- Organising and transferring samples to appropriate storage areas
- Monitoring and maintaining stock levels (glassware, chemicals, consumables)
- Cleaning and maintaining laboratory equipment, benches, and workspaces
- Ensuring safe disposal of samples in line with procedures
- Supporting the wider team to meet testing deadlines and service targets
- Assisting with general laboratory operations and additional tasks as required
- Providing occasional delivery/collection support for samples if needed
What We’re Looking For
We’re more interested in your attitude and approach than extensive experience. The ideal candidate will have:
- A degree in Microbiology or a related scientific discipline (preferred but not essential)
- Previous laboratory experience (preferred but not required)
- Strong attention to detail and a methodical working style
- Good organisational and record-keeping skills
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team
- A proactive, reliable attitude and willingness to learn
- Flexibility to work weekends as part of a 5-day rota (essential)
