SEN Teacher – Year 5/6 Autism Provision
Location: Brixton, South London
Start Date: Immediate Start
Contract: Full-Time, Term-Time Only

About the Role
Pertemps Education are currently recruiting for an experienced and passionate SEN Teacher to join a welcoming primary school in Brixton, supporting pupils within a specialist autism provision.
The successful candidate will lead a Year 5/6 class, delivering engaging, differentiated lessons tailored to the individual learning, communication and developmental needs of pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC).
This is an excellent opportunity for a dedicated SEN Teacher who is confident working within a specialist primary setting and passionate about helping children with additional needs achieve their full potential.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons suited to the needs and abilities of pupils with autism.
    • Lead and manage a Year 5/6 specialist class, creating a structured, nurturing and inclusive learning environment.
    • Adapt the curriculum to support individual learning needs, EHCP outcomes and developmental targets.
    • Implement appropriate communication strategies and visual support systems to encourage engagement and independence.
    • Support pupils with their social communication, emotional regulation and behavioural development.
    • Work closely with Teaching Assistants, the SENCO and wider multidisciplinary professionals.
    • Monitor pupil progress and contribute to individual education plans and assessments.
The Ideal Candidate
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
    • Previous experience teaching pupils with autism within a primary or specialist SEN setting.
    • Confident differentiating the curriculum to meet a range of complex learning needs.
    • Good understanding of autism, communication differences and sensory needs.
    • Experience implementing structured teaching approaches and visual communication strategies.
    • A patient, adaptable and nurturing approach, with a genuine passion for SEN education.
