SEN Teacher – Key Stage 2 ASD Resource Base

Are you an experienced SEN Teacher passionate about making a meaningful difference to pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)? Pertemps Education Network is working in partnership with a primary school seeking a skilled, resilient and enthusiastic SEN Teacher to lead a Key Stage 2 class within its dedicated ASD Resource Base.

This is an exciting opportunity for a teacher with a strong understanding of autism, structured teaching and differentiated curriculum planning to join a dedicated team supporting pupils with a range of social-communication and learning needs.

The class consists of 10 boys in Years 5 and 6, each with their own individual strengths, needs and learning profiles. You will play a key role in adapting the mainstream primary curriculum to ensure learning is accessible, engaging and meaningful, while developing pupils' independence, confidence and social-emotional skills.

This is a long-term opportunity, with the potential to become permanent for the right candidate.

As the SEN Teacher, you will take responsibility for leading the class and creating a structured, nurturing and inclusive learning environment tailored to pupils with autism.

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Planning and delivering differentiated lessons based on the KS2 national curriculum, adapting content to meet pupils' individual learning needs.
    • Implementing structured teaching approaches, particularly the TEACCH framework, to promote engagement, predictability and independence.
    • Establishing clear routines, visual supports and low-arousal learning environments to help pupils feel safe and ready to learn.
    • Using positive behaviour support and proactive de-escalation strategies to manage challenging situations effectively.
    • Supporting pupils' communication, emotional regulation and social development.
    • Facilitating positive peer relationships and helping pupils navigate social interactions and resolve conflicts.
    • Monitoring progress and adapting teaching approaches to support individual targets and outcomes.
    • Working collaboratively with teaching assistants, the SENCO, parents and other professionals to ensure consistent, high-quality support.
The Ideal CandidateThe school is looking for a confident and committed teacher who can combine strong teaching practice with specialist autism knowledge.

Essential requirements:
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
    • Experience teaching pupils with ASC within an ASD Resource Base, Autism Resource Provision (ARP) or special school setting.
    • Strong knowledge of the primary curriculum and experience differentiating lessons for pupils with complex learning and communication needs.
    • Practical experience using the TEACCH framework and structured teaching methodologies.
    • Excellent behaviour management skills, with a relational approach to de-escalation and conflict resolution.
    • The resilience, patience and adaptability required to lead a class with diverse needs.
    • A commitment to promoting pupils' independence, inclusion and emotional wellbeing.
What the School Offers
  • A dedicated ASD Resource Base within a primary school setting.
    • The opportunity to lead a KS2 class and make a tangible difference to pupils' lives.
    • A long-term placement with the possibility of a permanent position.
    • The opportunity to work alongside a team committed to improving outcomes for autistic pupils.
    • The chance to develop your specialist SEN teaching experience and contribute to pupils' academic and personal development.
