Learning Support Assistant – Specialist SEND School
Hours: 37.5 hours per week, 39 weeks per year
Salary: £20,000 – £25,000 actual annual salary
Are you passionate about supporting children and young people to overcome barriers, build confidence and achieve their full potential? The Education Network Birmingham is working with a specialist SEND school in Atherstone to recruit a dedicated Learning Support Assistant for a permanent, full-time position.
This is a fantastic opportunity to join a specialist therapeutic school where relationships, wellbeing and individual progress are at the heart of the provision. You will work closely with teachers, therapists and a wider multidisciplinary team to provide personalised support both in and outside of the classroom.
The school supports pupils with a range of SEND, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, communication difficulties and sensory processing differences. You will play an important role in helping pupils access learning, develop independence and work towards their individual EHCP outcomes.
This is much more than a traditional classroom support role. You will build trusted relationships with pupils, support positive behaviour and safeguarding strategies, and help create a calm, nurturing environment where every young person feels understood and able to succeed.

The Role
- Providing personalised support to pupils with a range of SEND
- Supporting learning both inside and outside of the classroom
- Working alongside teachers, therapists and other professionals
- Helping pupils work towards their individual EHCP outcomes
- Supporting communication, independence and emotional development
- Developing positive relationships and encouraging confidence and resilience
- Supporting positive behaviour and safeguarding strategies
- Adapting your approach to meet individual sensory, communication and learning needs
- Supporting pupils with activities and learning both on and off-site
- Working collaboratively with families and colleagues
- A genuine passion for supporting children and young people with SEND
- ALEvel3 Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent
- A patient, caring and compassionate approach
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
- The ability to adapt to different learning and behavioural needs
- A calm and resilient approach when supporting challenging situations
- A commitment to safeguarding and pupil wellbeing
- Previous experience working with children or young people is essential, particularly within SEND, education, care or therapeutic settings
- A permanent, full-time position
