About the Role A welcoming and inclusive primary school in Lambeth (SW2) is seeking a dedicated and compassionate BSL Teaching Assistant to join their team from September.
This is a rewarding 1:1 support role working closely with a deaf and speech-impaired pupil who uses British Sign Language (BSL) as their primary method of communication. Key Responsibilities
- Provide dedicated 1:1 support for a pupil who is deaf and speech impaired.
- Use British Sign Language (BSL) to support communication between the pupil, teaching staff, and peers.
- Adapt learning activities where necessary to ensure the pupil can fully access the curriculum.
- Support the pupil's academic, social, and emotional development.
- Work collaboratively with the class teacher, SENCO, and wider school staff.
- Encourage independence, confidence, and positive engagement in the classroom.
- Experience working with children in a school or educational setting.
- BSL Level 1 qualification or above is highly desirable.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Patient, empathetic, and committed to supporting children with additional needs.
- Ability to build positive relationships with pupils, staff, and parents.
