Job Description
Estates Craftsperson – Mechanical (Band 4)
West Suffolk
Join our busy Estates team and use your mechanical engineering skills to help keep hospitals and healthcare services safe, reliable and running smoothly.
As an Estates Craftsperson, you’ll carry out maintenance, repairs, fault-finding and new installations across a wide range of mechanical plant and equipment. Your work will directly support the safe and effective delivery of patient care across Trust sites.
What you’ll do
Maintain, repair and fault-find on mechanical systems and equipment.
Work on heating, steam, water, plumbing, HVAC, medical gas, decontamination and associated systems.
Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM), reactive repairs and commissioning.
Undertake new installations and improvement works.
Follow relevant NHS Health Technical Memorandums (HTMs), Trust procedures and safety standards.
Respond to emergencies and, following appropriate training, participate in the Estates on-call rota.
Work collaboratively with colleagues, clinical teams and contractors.
You’ll also work one weekend day each month for PPM/reactive work, with a day off in lieu the following week. Overtime is available.
What you’ll bring
A recognised mechanical trade apprenticeship.
City & Guilds Level 3 in Mechanical Engineering, Plumbing Services or equivalent.
Relevant experience in mechanical engineering/maintenance.
Good problem-solving and organisational skills.
The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
A flexible approach to working hours and duties.
Experience in an acute hospital environment and knowledge of NHS HTMs are desirable.
