JOB DESCRIPTION

A Refuse Loader plays a key role in waste management, assisting with the collection of refuse from residential or commercial areas. This role involves working as part of a team to load waste onto refuse collection vehicles for proper disposal.

QUALIFICATIONS

No academic qualifications are required. Training is provided on-the-job. A minimum age limit of 18 years normally applies.

TASKS

  • Assist in the collection of refuse from designated areas, including residential streets or commercial establishments..
  • Load refuse into collection vehicles, ensuring efficient and timely waste pickup..
  • Work collaboratively with the refuse collection team, including drivers and other loaders..
  • Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors to ensure smooth operations..
  • Lift and load various types of refuse, including bags, bins, and bulky items, onto collection vehicles..
  • Follow proper lifting techniques to prevent injuries and strains..
  • Sort collected waste into recyclables and non-recyclables as directed by waste management guidelines..
  • Identify and separate different types of materials for recycling purposes..
  • Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines while handling refuse and working in proximity to collection vehicles..
  • Use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required..
  • Interact with residents or business owners in a professional and courteous manner..
  • Provide information on waste disposal guidelines and answer basic inquiries..
  • Assist in the routine maintenance of refuse collection equipment..
  • Report any equipment malfunctions or issues to supervisors promptly..
  • Clean and maintain the immediate work area and refuse collection vehicle..
  • Assist in keeping the collection vehicle in good working condition..
  • Maintain accurate records of the quantity and types of refuse collected..
  • Complete required paperwork for tracking and reporting purposes..
