JOB DESCRIPTION

Children Support Workers play a crucial role in providing care, guidance, and support to children who may be facing challenges, such as those in foster care, residential settings, or those with special needs. They work collaboratively with other professionals to create a nurturing environment that promotes the well-being and development of the children under their care.

QUALIFICATIONS

There are no formal academic entry requirements. In most cases workers will be required to register with the appropriate statutory body which involves satisfying the registration criteria. This would normally include holding or working towards the appropriate qualification for the job. Entrants must typically be 18 years old and have experience of working in a care environment. Both Off and on-the-job training is available. A wide range of qualifications including NVQs/SVQs covering various aspects of care are available. Background checks including a DBS check are likely to be required.

TASKS

  • Provide direct care and supervision to children, ensuring their safety, well-being, and comfort..
  • Offer emotional support and encouragement to children, helping them navigate challenges and build positive relationships..
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of individualized care plans for each child, addressing their unique needs and circumstances..

  • Advocate for the rights and needs of children, ensuring their voices are heard in decision-making processes..
  • Work collaboratively with other professionals, including social workers, educators, and healthcare providers, to provide comprehensive support..
  • Engage with the families of children, providing updates on progress, involving them in decision-making, and supporting family reunification when applicable..
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of each child's progress, activities, and any relevant information..
  • Respond to crises or emergencies, implementing appropriate interventions to ensure the safety and well-being of children..
