A Furnace Operator is a skilled professional responsible for the operation and control of furnaces used in industrial processes, such as metal smelting, glass production, or heat treatment. This role involves monitoring furnace conditions, adjusting settings, and ensuring the proper functioning of the furnace to achieve desired outcomes in the manufacturing process.

QUALIFICATIONS

There are no formal academic entry requirements. Training is typically provided on-the-job. Vocational qualifications at Level 2 and 3 in relevant areas, including metal and materials processing and finishing. are available.

TASKS

  • Start up, shut down, and operate furnaces or kilns according to production requirements..
  • Monitor and control temperature, pressure, and other furnace parameters..
  • Load raw materials into the furnace and unload finished or processed materials..
  • Follow proper procedures to ensure safe and efficient material handling..
  • Adjust furnace settings to achieve and maintain the desired temperature profiles..
