So, it seems there is no escaping this however you can use it to your advantage when it comes to landing your dream job. Employers will be considering:

  • Do you appear professional?
  • Are you interested in the industry?
  • Would you represent the business well?

You should always be aware of your social media presence and what information is available for the world to see. If your profile is open to the public and shows you partying, in compromising positions or features controversial and divisive opinions, this will probably hurt your chances. Remember once something is posted online, you can never take this back.

Utilise your social media to engage in discussions, employers like to see your engaged and proactive. It also gives them an idea as to whether you will fit in with their company and current employees.
